The clients, a British couple living in Cape Town, requested a six-bedroom, seven-level home that makes the most of the site, the views and the mountain. The lower levels of the existing structure were totally remodelled while the upper level was demolished to allow for two new levels.
The project is located in the farm land on the fringe area of Guye district, Tangshan. Villages and houses are scattered around. The site is a rectangular flat land covers an area of 6000㎡. The basic function of the building is acting as a processing workshop of organic food – raw materials come from organic producing areas across the country, being collected, processed and packed here, and then being delivered to other places as finished products.
The project is our flat in Barcelona in the Gotico area, in the center of the historic part of Barcelona. A challenge was the very heterogenic floor plan, which was interrupted by various light patios. The other issue is little daylight in the old town of Barcelona, as the sun and the heat were considered rather a burden in the old times.
This early XX century patio-apartment presents the opportunity to reformulate the dwelling’s conditions, adapted to Mediterranean climate, in the urban density of Gracia’s district.
Beyond solving the housing scheme for a young couple with two daughters the project aims to understand the house as a gallery that connects the street with the inner courtyards enhancing comfort situations in the intermediate spaces as living thresholds.
